The 58th annual ETSU Alumni Golf Classic was held at Cattails at MeadowView in Kingsport on Friday, Sept. 19.
ETSU alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students and volunteers were present for the two-person select-shot tournament held by the ETSU National Alumni Association. Golfers chose from one of eight divisions: the Gold Division for players with a handicap of 10 and under; the Blue Division for those with a handicap of 11-20; the White Division for players with a handicap of 21 or more; Faculty/Staff; Women; Greeks; Seniors; and Co-ed (male/female).
The champions of the Gold Flight were Jim Haire and Paul Haire, who won with a score of 58. Jeremiah Adams and Hunter Millsap scored a 63 to nab second place. In the Blue Division, Matt Toole and Tim Way won with a score of 61. Also shooting a 61, Frankie Brian and Max Brian were the runners-up after a scorecard playoff. The White Division crowned Nate Dixon and Jared Strickland the champions with a score of 66. Ivan Clipse and Josh Scott were second, claiming a score of 70.
Winning the Co-Ed Division were Jody Head and Trevor Head with a score of 66. The team of Courtney Saddler and Aaron Saddler shot a 67, securing second place. In the Senior Division, first-place winners were Patton Gamble and Gary Scheuerman, who won with a score of 63. Gary Burleson and Jim Olinger were runners-up with a score of 66. The winners of the Faculty/Staff Division were Brian Johnson and Ralph Mills, who shot a 70. Second place was awarded to Suzanna Camp and Aaron Polichnowski, who scored 73. Susan Crum and Rebecca Muncy had a score of 75, winning the Women’s Division. In the Greek division, Curt Acres and Mike Adam prevailed with a score of 67. Runners up were Layton Burrow and Travis Burrow with a score of 89.
Other tournament contest winners include Paul Haire, who won the Men’s Longest Drive challenge, receiving a catered barbecue dinner worth $600 from The Firehouse Restaurant. Jim Muse won the Men’s Closest to the Pin competition. Susan Crum won the Longest Drive in the Women’s competition. Jody Head won Women’s Closest to the Pin and was rewarded with an overnight stay for two along with an hour massage compliments of The Carnegie Hotel.
