East Tennessee State University’s Counseling Center earned accreditation from the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS), recognizing its commitment to providing quality counseling services to students.
IACS is a leading organization that establishes standards for professional counseling services on college and university campuses worldwide. Its accreditation process evaluates counseling centers against established standards for service delivery, professional practices and the quality of care provided to students.
The accreditation marks an important milestone for ETSU’s Counseling Center and reflects the university’s commitment to supporting students’ mental health, well-being and academic success.
"Our students deserve to feel supported, valued and cared for when they walk through our doors,” said Sarah Bedingfield, director of the Counseling Center. “IACS accreditation not only validates the quality of care our team provides, but also gives us a framework for continuous improvement, professional development and advocacy for the resources we need to better serve our students. It reflects our commitment to accountability, excellence and always putting students first.”
The Counseling Center will celebrate this achievement with an open house on Friday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community members, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend, learn more about the center’s services, connect with its staff and recognize this accomplishment.
ETSU’s Counseling Center supports students as they navigate the personal, academic and social experiences of college life. Access to professional counseling services is an important part of fostering a campus environment where students can seek support and build skills that contribute to their overall well-being.
In addition to its role as a mental health resource on campus, the Counseling Center serves as a training facility for students enrolled in graduate mental health programs. The new accreditation underscores the Counseling Center’s commitment to professional standards and student-centered care.
