East Tennessee State University has been named a 2026 Yellow Ribbon School by U.S. Veterans Magazine, adding to a growing list of national recognitions for the university’s commitment to veterans, active-duty service members and military-affiliated students.

The recognition comes during another year of strong momentum. Earlier this year, ETSU earned Gold status in the 2026-27 Military Friendly® School rankings, marking the university’s 16th consecutive year receiving the designation.

“This recognition reflects years of intentional investment in military-affiliated students,” said Col. (Ret.) Dan Bishop, director of Military and Veteran Services. “While we’re proud to receive this recognition, what matters most is creating an environment where military-affiliated students feel welcomed, supported and empowered.”

That investment includes efforts to make an ETSU education more affordable and accessible for those who have served. Active-duty military undergraduate students using Department of Defense Tuition Assistance now pay no more than $250 per credit hour, nearly half the previous rate. The university also provides military-affiliated students with specialized advising, priority registration, assistance navigating education benefits and access to the Military-Affiliated Student Resource Center.

ETSU faculty and staff also participate in Green Zone training, which helps build understanding of the unique experiences and needs of student veterans and military-affiliated students.

“Military-affiliated students bring tremendous experience, perspective and resilience to our campus,” Bishop said. “We want them to know that ETSU is a place where they can build on that experience and achieve their educational goals.”
