In a transformative move to support first-generation and low-income students, East Tennessee State University is launching the Mary V. Jordan Center (Jordan Center), a support hub to guide students from application to career placement.
“We want to ensure that all students have the support they need to succeed—not just to enroll, but to stay on track, earn their degree and graduate on time,” said ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland. “The Mary V. Jordan Center is a vital step in that commitment. By providing focused, personalized support from day one, we are investing in our students’ futures and the strength of our region.”
Beginning this summer, the Jordan Center will introduce a key initiative designed to support full-time, first-year students who are low-income, first-generation or working toward academic improvement. The center will work with the Enrollment Management and Financial Aid offices to identify the first cohort of approximately 200 students.
Through this initiative, students will receive personalized guidance, targeted programming and comprehensive services as they progress through the university’s Compass Core curriculum. This general education curriculum for all students emphasizes real-world skills and interdisciplinary learning.
By addressing financial barriers and offering the tools needed for academic and personal success, these programs will empower students to thrive at ETSU and stay on track toward graduation. In addition, the Jordan Center’s network of services will be available to any ETSU student seeking support. The center also will enhance ETSU’s existing bridge programs to assist students in transitioning to college.
