For Tennessee students thinking about what comes next after high school, the first step toward college can be as simple as filling out an application. In September, that first step comes with no application fee at East Tennessee State University.

During the month of September, Tennessee residents interested in attending ETSU as a first-year or transfer student can apply for admission for fall 2027 without paying the standard $25 application fee. As part of TN College Application & Exploration Month, eligible students can use the code TNFreeApp27 when completing their application to have the fee waived.

“Choosing a college is a big decision, and we want students in our state and region to know that they can find a high-quality education that fits their goals and their budget at ETSU,” said Timothy Lewis, director for undergraduate recruitment. “Free Application Month removes one small barrier and gives students the opportunity to take that first step, explore what ETSU has to offer and see what their future could look like as a Buccaneer.”

ETSU will also celebrate “Why Apply” day on Friday, Sept. 18, encouraging current students, faculty, staff and alumni to share how college has shaped their lives and inspire prospective students to take the first step toward their own future.

Prospective students from out of state will also have a chance to apply for free during the month of October.

As undergraduate enrollment has grown, the university has earned major accolades for quality and affordability, as well as academic outcomes.
