East Tennessee State University’s inaugural “Upper East Tennessee Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Summit” conference, presented by the Office of Professional Development, will be held Friday, Oct. 27, at the James and Nellie Brinkley Center.

The conference, which takes place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, aims to train and educate members of the community in the prevention of and response to sexual assault, and in advocacy and treatment for victims. It is intended as an initial effort to eliminate misconceptions and create an environment in which a response to both victims and survivors will be elevated and inspired to best meet their needs.

ETSU Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Kimberly D. McCorkle is among those speaking at the summit. Other conference speakers include Sgt. Major Cindy Humphrey, U.S. Department of Defense sexual assault advocate; Abby Wallace, Washington County assistant district attorney; Amani Brice, sexual assault victim advocate, Frontier Health.

Throughout the conference, narratives and art derived from the healing of sexual assault and domestic violence victims and survivors will be featured, and effective protocols for responding to those experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault will be addressed.

Registration is $79 ($30 for students), and includes breakfast, lunch and breaks. ETSU employees may use their employee audit benefit to pay for registration. CEUs and POST accreditation will be offered.
