ETSU grad Jahlil White embraced every opportunity to grow, lead and inspire during his time on campus. As an Interdisciplinary Studies major with minors in Art and Psychology, he built a diverse academic foundation while actively contributing to the ETSU community through Greek Life and the Preview Orientation Leader Organization (POLO).

“The sense of community and the support available to students have been what I love most about being here. ETSU has a way of making you feel like you’re part of something bigger than just your studies,” Jahlil said.

Jahlil’s leadership roles in POLO and Greek Life were instrumental in his development.

“ETSU has played a huge role in my personal growth and development by offering opportunities to get involved in leadership roles like POLO and Greek Life,” he said. “These experiences have allowed me to develop stronger communication, organizational and problem-solving skills. I’ve also learned how to balance academics, work and extracurriculars, which has been vital in preparing me for life after graduation.”

Jahlil’s commitment to leadership extends beyond the classroom. As a POLO leader, he guided incoming students through their transition to college, helping them navigate the challenges of a new environment.

“Being able to see that student step foot on campus to then growing into bigger opportunities has been the most rewarding feeling,” he said.

Jahlil’s involvement and networking at ETSU also led to a significant career opportunity. He now serves as the Director of Marketing for Tennessee Hills Brewstillery. The local business combines the craft of brewing and distilling under one roof. His hands-on experiences at ETSU played a key role in preparing him for this position.

“ETSU gave me a strong foundation, especially by allowing me to create merchandise for several student groups and our athletics department,” he said. “I enjoy how this job allows me to bring our brand to life and connect with the local community.”

Looking ahead, Jahlil - a May 2025 graduate -  plans to channel his passion for creativity by establishing a creative agency that helps others build their own brands and businesses.

“My ultimate goal is to own a creative business, focusing on branding, content creation and eventually expanding into a print shop,” he said. “I am passionate about helping others build their own brands and businesses and want to establish a creative agency that can offer both support and unique services to entrepreneurs.”

For prospective students considering ETSU, Jahlil’s advice is simple: Get involved and embrace every opportunity.

“My advice would be to get involved early and take advantage of all the opportunities ETSU has to offer,” he said. “Whether it’s joining organizations, connecting with professors or exploring different fields, make sure to immerse yourself in the experience. College is more than just academics—it’s about personal growth and forming meaningful relationships.”

Through his leadership, creativity and drive, Jahlil exemplifies the spirit of ETSU. His journey is a testament to the university’s commitment to providing students with the tools, connections and experiences needed to succeed beyond graduation.
