Creating memories that last a lifetime just became a dedicated degree at ETSU.

Born in response to the regional workforce needs and strong student interest, the new Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality and Tourism Management is preparing students for leadership roles in one of the fastest-growing industries in Tennessee.

While hospitality and tourism has been available to students as a concentration within the College of Business and Technology’s Department of Management and Supply Chain, this full build-out of a degree program highlights ETSU’s mission to meet the ever-evolving needs of both students and employers.

“Tourism is a cornerstone of the regional economy, generating hundreds of millions in visitor spending across the Northeast Tennessee counties and supporting thousands of jobs,” said Ken Misterly, Professor of Practice in Hospitality and Tourism.

A strong tourism industry benefits both graduates and the region they call home. Students can build lifelong careers while contributing to their communities. Growth in tourism supports small business vitality, attracts investment, increases visitation, and enhances quality-of-life initiatives, while helping retain local talent.

Preparing for a career in hospitality and tourism extends far beyond the classroom. These trailblazing students will roll up their sleeves through hands-on learning experiences that benefit local partners. This includes site visits to hotels, venues, destinations, and festivals, as well as applied projects embedded throughout the program and coursework developed in collaboration with real hospitality organizations.

In addition to offering five different concentrations, the program meets students where they are, with the degree being offered at both ETSU’s main campus in Johnson City and ETSU at Sevier County.

“Behind every memorable trip, event, or guest experience is a team of professionals making it happen. This program prepares students to become the leaders behind those moments,” said Kelly Hall, Chair of Management and Supply Chain.
