You’ve grown up gaming, texting and Googling. You’ve had a smartphone in one hand and a tablet in the other since you were little. Your parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles rely on you for tech support. We’re confident you can thrive in this age of ever-changing technology, and we work hard at ETSU to provide you with the platforms, resources and support you need for your academic coursework and more.
Here are a few of the top tech tools every ETSU student needs to know:
D2L– Desire2Learn – is ETSU’s course management system, used in both on-ground and online courses. You may already be familiar with D2L from high school or dual enrollment courses, but your instructors use it to share course materials, videos, and more. You’ll turn in quizzes and assignments in D2L, track your grades and progress, and interact with instructors and classmates through D2L’s discussion forums and other communication tools. Find it at elearn.etsu.edu, or go to the main ETSU home page at etsu.edu and click “D2L” in the top navigation line.
Degree Works helps you and your advisor stay on top of your academic progress. Working together, you and your advisor will use Degree Works to plan each semester of coursework and make long-term plans for degree completion. You can even experiment with changing majors or degree plans using Degree Works’ “What If…” scenarios.
Email– Email remains the primary communication tool on the ETSU campus. Check your email each day for messages from your faculty and administrators. Make it a habit to read ETSU’s official e-newsletters, such as BucWire and President Dr. Brian Noland’s From My Notepads, to stay informed on important announcements, news, details on campus events, and more.
Sherrod Library Resources – ETSU’s Sherrod Library offers you many more resources than we can mention in this space, but here are just a few!
· OneSearch – At the top of the Sherrod Library website is OneSearch, where you can look for articles, books, journals, media, and more using keywords, titles, authors, or other identifiers.
· Databases – The library offers access to more than 260 academic databases to help you find the information you need. These will come in handy as you work on research papers.
· Innovation Commons– Explore Innovation Commons, ETSU’s new digital media and maker hub, on the second floor of the Sherrod Library. Here you’ll find workstations with the latest digital media software, a professional sound booth for recording podcasts and voiceovers, 3D printers, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, sewing machines and much more.
· Computers, Printers and Other Equipment – Each floor of the Sherrod Library has lab computers for your use. Your Technology Access Fee and ETSU ID BUC$ allow you to use the printers/copiers on the first, second and third floors.
· Other great technology available at the Sherrod Library includes scanners, plenty of power outlets with USB ports to charge your mobile devices, and assistive technology like special software, low-vision keyboards, a video magnifier, a videophone and more.
· The Sherrod Library website is a treasure trove of additional valuable resources.
