For schools within a day’s drive of East Tennessee State University, the university’s elite Digital Media Program – ranked No. 1 in the state for both animation and game design – provides creative opportunities.
The program is offering STEM demos, taught by professionals associated with the department, to grades four through 12. And if the school is located in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia or Western North Carolina, someone from ETSU will travel there to teach the demo.
“What we are offering these students and schools is truly incredible,” said Dr. Tod Emma, department chair. “Perhaps this will spark a lifelong passion in a student or build on skills already attained.”
Digital Media is offering demos centered on three categories, according to Madison Warner, creative administrator for the program: 3D modeling, digital art and character design.
These teaching sessions last between 30 minutes and an hour and feature real-world experts providing clear instruction.
“In addition, each lesson is curated to the specific needs of a classroom,” said Warner. “This type of hands-on experience is invaluable and introduces students to the exciting – and thriving – world of digital media.”
Students getting hands-on learning opportunities is at the core of ETSU’s approach to education. From jobs at Disney to guaranteed employment with BlueCross BlueShield, ETSU faculty and staff work tirelessly to help students land a job.
Participating schools must have access to a computer lab, as well as internet access. Having Adobe Creative Suite is recommended but not required.
