East Tennessee State University Campus Recreation is introducing a new outdoor Fitness Court® designed to promote health, wellness and physical activity among students and members of the broader community.
The FitnessCourt® is part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Fitness Campaign (NFC), which works to improve health outcomes and increase access to outdoor fitness opportunities across the United States.
ETSU was selected as one of the recipients nationwide to receive grant funding from NFC to support the installation of the Fitness Court®. Additional local funding from the ETSU Facilities Improvement Fund helped bring the project to campus.
The Fitness Court® provides users with an outdoor workout experience that uses body weight as resistance and can be completed in approximately seven minutes. The court features seven exercise stations and was designed for individuals aged 14 and older and people of all abilities. Exercises can be adapted to accommodate different fitness levels, allowing participants to exercise at their own pace.
Participants can also use the free Fitness Court App, which provides guided workouts and serves as a digital fitness resource to complement the outdoor equipment.
“The Campus Recreation Fitness Court® is an investment in the health and well-being of the entire ETSU community. ETSU has made significant progress in enhancing the campus environment and creating places where students can gather and connect. The Fitness Court® builds on that momentum by providing an accessible, innovative outdoor space that encourages movement, connection, and lifelong healthy habits. We are excited to see this space be a resource that our students and the entire ETSU community can enjoy through informal use, during personal training sessions, and by attending group fitness classes at this location,” said Kari Albarado, director of Campus Recreation.
ETSU Campus Recreation serves more than 3,000 participants through group fitness classes led by more than 20 certified instructors. Campus Recreation also offers personal training services to students, faculty, staff and the Center for Physical Activity (CPA) members through a team of nine certified personal trainers.
Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend the Fitness Court®opening-day launch event at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14. The event will include an opportunity to tour the Fitness Court®, learn more about its features and explore upcoming wellness events and programming.
