A new tradition is coming to East Tennessee State University this spring.
The ETSU Jazz Festival debuts Friday, April 4, at the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts, bringing together high school and collegiate musicians for a day filled with performance, education and world-class jazz.
Hosted by ETSU’s Department of Music, and sponsored by the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts, the event features the Adam Larson Trio as guest clinicians and performers.
Throughout the day, registered students will get tremendous opportunities. They will perform in the Martin Center and receive an on-stage clinic from the guest artists, have the opportunity to hear the ETSU Jazz Combos and Jazz Ensemble perform, participate in workshops hosted by the guest artists and ETSU faculty, and engage with other student musicians from throughout the region.
“This festival is a celebration of collaboration, creativity and the joy of live jazz,” said Dr. Brian Rodesch, an instructor in the department. “It’s a chance for young musicians to grow, connect and be inspired by some of the best players in the industry.”
All the student events throughout the day are free and open to the public.
The day concludes with a headline performance by the Adam Larson Trio. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets through the Martin Center.
The festival schedule is as follows:
- 9:15 a.m. – Check-in begins (Martin Center Lobby)
- 10 a.m. – Student performances and clinics begin
- 1 p.m. – Lunch and ETSU Jazz Combo performances
- 2 p.m. – Workshops with guest artists and ETSU faculty
- 3:30 p.m. – Student performances and clinics resume
- 5 p.m. – ETSU Jazz Ensemble performance
- 7:30 p.m. – Adam Larson Trio in concert (*tickets required)
