The ETSU Martin Center for the Arts transformed into a winter wonderland on Monday, November 18, as nearly 1,200 elementary school students from seven schools across Greene, Johnson, and Unicoi counties enjoyed a special matinee performance of “Frosty: A Musical Adventure” performed by the Barter Players. The production, sponsored by East Tennessee Insurance Agency, brought the holiday classic to life, offering an exciting introduction to the magic of live theater for many children.

“This area is our home. We cherish the surrounding regions and our beautiful Appalachian communities. I wanted to do something for kids to enjoy the theater experience, and the decision for East Tennessee Insurance Agency to sponsor a play for elementary students from local schools was an easy ‘YES!’” said Beth Larshus, owner of East Tennessee Insurance Agency. “We wanted to share the beauty of what imagination and creativity can inspire and to give them an experience they would remember and maybe be inspired by. Watching nearly 1,200 kids enjoy and laugh at “Frosty” live is so special. It warms my heart.”

Students marveled at the lively production, which mixed music, humor, and valuable lessons about friendship and the magic of believing. The event provided many students with their first-ever exposure to live theater.

"This performance embodies the dream our region shares for the Martin Center—creating opportunities for even the youngest members of our community to experience and be transformed by the arts,” said Jennifer Clements, Executive Director of the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts. “Thanks to the generosity of East Tennessee Insurance Agency, this event became a magical and inspiring moment for many children.”
