Your ETSU Welcome Week guide: August 23-29
A new semester brings new classes, new opportunities and plenty of ways to get involved on campus. That’s where ETSU Welcome Week comes in.
From Aug. 23-29, Welcome Week gives new and returning Buccaneers plenty of ways to settle in, meet people and discover what campus life has to offer.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Sunday kicks things off with a Block Party at Dr. Bonnie L. Burchett Field starting at 6 p.m. Hosted by Housing and Residence Life and Campus Recreation, the evening will feature free food, games and giveaways. Start the semester with your fellow Bucs.
- Monday is all about connection. The Scoop on Faith, Service and Impact at Borchuck Plaza (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) connects students with local nonprofits, civic organizations, faith-based groups and community service opportunities. If you’re looking for ways to make an impact on campus or in the community, this is a great place to start.
- Tuesday brings opportunities for leadership and community! Dip Into Leadership and Community at University Commons and the Pride Lawn (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) to meet student organizations, discover ways to get involved, and enjoy live music, inflatables, and free food. There’s even a Welcome Week card challenge: visit at least nine participating tables and collect signatures, then turn in your card for a free Welcome Week T-shirt while supplies last. That evening, cool off at the Campus Rec and SGA Pool Party (6-8 p.m.) at the Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA), featuring the Sport Club Showcase, live music, food and plenty of summer vibes.
- Wednesday offers a full lineup of ways to connect and recharge. Start with the ETSU PRIDE Community Showcase at Borchuck Plaza (9 a.m.-1 p.m.), where you can connect with local businesses and organizations and pick up some giveaways. Then head to the D.P. Culp Student Center Mainstreet for the Well-being Buffet (1-4 p.m.), where you can explore campus resources and student organizations focused on connection, well-being, growth and support. Later, grab a team and hit the court for the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the CPA (5-6 p.m.). Cap off the day with Sunset Yoga on the ETSU football field (7-8 p.m.) and take a moment to breathe and enjoy the sunset.
- Thursday brings the Arts and Cultural Remix to the Quad (10 a.m.-2 p.m). This annual Welcome Week tradition introduces new and transfer students to student organizations, university departments, faculty, staff and cultural programs through entertainment, activities and food. That evening, head to the CPA pickleball courts for the Pickle and Paddle Social (6-8 p.m.), celebrating the opening of ETSU’s new pickleball courts with music, food, swag and plenty of opportunities to get on the court.
- Friday is your chance to explore the academic side of campus life. The Academic and Honors Campus Organization Round Up takes place at the Pride Lawn and Amphitheatre area (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). Academic departments, student support offices, academic organizations and honor societies will be on deck to help you discover learning opportunities beyond your classes.
Throughout the week, you’ll also find student organization and office tabling events, organization-sponsored activities and plenty of other opportunities to get involved. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for chances to win tablets, headphones and other great prizes.
The best part of Welcome Week isn’t just the events themselves. It’s the opportunity to start building your ETSU experience by finding the organizations you want to join, discovering the resources you didn’t know you needed and making lifelong friendships.
Whether you’re coming back to campus or stepping onto campus for the very first time, there’s a place for you here.
