ETSU choral ensembles will present “Draw the Circle Wide” April 24 at the Martin Center, exploring themes of connection, community and belonging through music.

The title says it all: “Draw the Circle Wide.”

East Tennessee State University's premier choral ensembles invite audiences into a shared musical space where voices come together to explore connection, community and what it means to belong.

About the concert

Featuring the ETSU Bucsworth, Belles and Chorale, the concert brings together students from diverse academic disciplines united by a commitment to choral excellence and the transformative power of singing together.

"This program asks fundamental questions about how we create space for one another," said Dr. Alan Stevens, chair of the Department of Music. "The act of singing in community – of blending voices, listening to each other, making room for different parts to be heard – is itself a model for how we might live together. That's what this concert celebrates."

The repertoire spans musical traditions, with each piece selected to illuminate different dimensions of unity, expression and shared humanity. From classical works to contemporary compositions, the program creates a narrative arc that moves audiences through the many ways music builds bridges between people.

The ETSU Bucsworth and Belles represent the university's commitment to developing young singers through rigorous training and performance opportunities. The ETSU Chorale, the university's premier ensemble with more than 80 years of tradition, has earned recognition across the state, including an invitation to perform at the Tennessee Music Educators Association All-State Conference.

Bucsworth performs in a 2026 concert.
