University School at ETSU earned Gold Distinction on the AP School Honor Roll, recognizing strong Advanced Placement participation and student performance.

University School, housed on East Tennessee State University's main campus, earned Gold Distinction on the Advanced Placement School Honor Roll.

It’s a national recognition honoring schools whose AP programs deliver results while broadening student participation.

The distinction places University School among a select group of institutions nationwide recognized by the College Board for expanding access to college-level coursework while maintaining strong student performance.

The numbers tell the story.

University School had 89% of seniors take at least one AP exam during high school, 47% of seniors score a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, and 11% of seniors take five or more AP exams.

Research indicates that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree than non-AP students.

"Our school is incredibly proud to be recognized on the AP School Honor Roll with Gold Distinction," said Dr. Brian K. Partin, director of University School. "This honor reflects the hard work, perseverance and academic commitment of our students, who continue to challenge themselves and rise to high expectations."

Recognition reflects institutional partnership

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness.

Partin emphasized that the recognition also speaks to the dedication of the school's educators.

"Our faculty and staff invest deeply in our students' success through rigorous instruction, encouragement and exceptional support," Partin said. "Their partnership with our students made this achievement possible, and I am grateful for their extraordinary efforts."

Advanced Placement courses enable students to pursue college-level studies, with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both, while still in high school. Through AP courses in 40 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students develop critical thinking skills and construct solid arguments that prepare them for college and beyond.

"This distinction celebrates the collective determination of our school community," Partin said. "I could not be more proud."

University School's Gold Distinction reinforces ETSU's broader commitment to academic excellence and college readiness, providing students with opportunities to compete at the highest levels while still in high school.
